joan-mcgue-anthem-10k-nov-2016Yikes! It’s taken me a whole week to get caught up post Thanksgiving! Congratulations to everyone who started their days off with Turkey Trots or Tris!

Results are below, but first, good luck to those of you racing the Hot Chocolate 15K this weekend. The weather should be absolutely perfect for racing. Remember to dress as though the temperature is 20 deg warmer than what it is on the start line. In other words, if the morning low is supposed to be 40 deg, dress as though itis 60. This will keep you from over dressing and getting too hot in the first mile of the race. Have fun!

JFK 50-miler, IMAZ

2016-11-20-12-24-48Hope you all are enjoying a pleasant Thanksgiving weekend!

A nice time to reflect on what happened LAST weekend, as far as racing goes, anyway. Of course, I’m talking about IMAZ.

But first, also last weekend, congratulations to Kyrsten Sinema who ran the JFK 50 Miler and finished in a solid 12:30! Kyrsten remarked that it was definitely tougher on the body than an IM. Our hats are always off to ultrarunners.

As you know, for IMAZ, the race took place under near perfect racing conditions. How great that you all can remember a world record was set on the course this day. Great job to all our racers!

Sally Borg – 14:13 – PR and 6th in AG!!

Paul Kluzak – 11:35 in his 7th IMAZ!

Bring on the meat of the running season and look forward to 2017!!!

Phoenix Summit Challenge, Tempe Splash and Dash, Veterans Day 5K

Despite the warm weekend, there were some good races out there!

Adela Riehle completed the Phoenix Summit Challenge (7 hi points in Phoenix in a day). Kyrsten Sinema did the first 4 and then cut it short to save herself for her first 50 mile run which is this weekend!

At the Tempe Splash and Dash (1K swim, 5K run), Jennifer Talbot finished as 1st overall female!

David Hay ran the Veteran’s Day 5K and finished in 25:30 which was fast enough for 1st in his AG!

Tomorrow night (Wed) at 6pm is our race strategy lecture for IMAZ. We’ll go over pacing and race strategy for Sunday. Good luck to our IMAZ racers!!

Monumental Marathon, Indianapolis, San Tan 25K, Phx 10K and Half Marathon, 25 hours of Frog Hollow MTB

joan-mcgue-phoenix-10k-1026The running and MTB season is finally underway here in AZ! Hopefully the weather will continue to cool for IMAZ next week. There were some nice races this weekend.

Frank Smith kept his marathon streak alive by finishing the Monumental Marathon in Indianapolis. Frank finished in 4:40 and took 115th in his AG about a month after doing IM Maryland!

Peter Ney ran a nice 2 hour run at the San Tan 25K off road run. Peter took 15th overall male.

We had several people race the Phoenix 10K and 1/2 marathon this weekend.

Phoenix 10K

Joan McGue – 59:01 – 4th in AG

Mike Auther – 47:55 – 9th in AG

CJ Ketterer – 48:16 – 3rd in AG

Phoenix ½ Marathon

Dave Frome – 1:50 – 3rd in AG

Near Zion, Utah, Ric Emery raced a 25 hour endurance MTB event called the 25 hours of Frog Hallow. Ric had an excellent race and covered 195 miles in 25 hours. This was good enough for 2nd in his division and also ranked him as the number 2 single speed endurance racer on the circuit nationally! Nice job, Ric!

As a reminder, our next IM lecture is on Wed, Nov 16th at 6pm. We will meet at the Comfort Inn in Fountain Hills. This meeting will cover proper pacing and race strategy for IMAZ. We are holding the meeting during IMAZ race week so that the information stays fresh in everyone’s mind! Hope to see you there – all are welcome!
